ELEVATE: Handstand

(October – December 2024)

 

This series of ELEVATE classes focuses on the practice of handstands. Strengthening and stabilising postures are practised to prepare the body for these poses and build its internal support. The class emphasises different methods of entering handstand and variations of this pose. Students can expect some partner work and the use of the wall for support whenever needed.

 

Suitable for intermediate yoga practitioners with a consistent practice who are comfortable kicking into a handstand at the wall. This class builds on the necessary body stability and awareness acquired in foundation and intermediate-level classes to take on handstand poses and their variations.

 

 

ELEVATE: Backbend Handstand

(October – December 2024)

 

Advance your handstand practice with ELEVATE: Backbend Handstand. A specialised, non-vinyasa asana practice that prepares your spine and shoulders for safe, mindful backbending. This class will emphasise strengthening and stabilising postures, allowing you to achieve balance in your handstand before exploring dynamic backbend variations like the scorpion and hollow back.

 

Suitable for intermediate to advanced yoga practitioners who have consistently attended upside-down classes. The ability to kick into handstand (at the wall) and perform wheel pose (urdhva dhanurasana) with straight arms is required for this class.

ELEVATE: Hatha Master Class

 

 

Embark on a journey to explore ELEVATE: Hatha Master Class. This 2-hr master class offers advanced practitioners the opportunity to refine your skills and explore the depths of grounding in yoga. A non-vinyasa based asana practice focused on connecting the body and mind to increase awareness and stability. Some pranayama, chanting, and meditation may be included.

 

Suitable for advanced yoga practitioners. Students must have consistently attended mixed-level classes and possess the necessary body stability and awareness to attempt advanced postures. The ability to perform handstand (at the wall) and straight-arm wheel pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana) are required for this class. This class is permanently on the schedule.

ELEVATE: Chair & Wall Rope Yoga

With the support of a chair and wall ropes, you will explore poses that allow you to safely access deeper stretches and hold postures longer, helping to release tension and build flexibility.

 

Suitable for all levels, this class offers a gentle yet effective way to improve your practice, providing the support needed to explore challenging poses with confidence. Whether you are looking to deepen your flexibility, enhance your alignment, or simply enjoy a restorative practice, this session offers a mindful blend of stretch and support. Please note that it is necessary to arrive 5-10 minutes before class to set up the equipment. This class is permanently on the schedule.

ELEVATE: Vinyasa Advanced

 

A dynamic practice focused on moving the body with the breath. The experience in this class is one of fluidity and motion. Poses are generally held for short periods, with an emphasis on the rhythm of the breath to help align and focus the mind. Some pranayama, chanting, and meditation may be included.

 

Suitable for intermediate yoga practitioners with a consistent Vinyasa practice. It builds on the body stability acquired in Mixed Level classes to take on more challenging asanas and sequences. Modifications are provided to allow an easy transition to Advanced Level. Full inversions may be included in these classes. This class is permanently on the schedule.
