The Path to Mastery: Hee Boon and Arun’s Yoga Journeys

Their expertise is built on years of practice and a deep understanding of yoga philosophy. Hear from Hee Boon and Arun as they recount their journeys:

Personal Paths and PURE Connection

Q: “What inspired your personal yoga journey, and how did it lead you to teaching at PURE?”

Hee Boon: “When I was a teenager, I noticed my dad practicing yoga, and I was curious about it but never had the chance to ask him about it. Years later, when I started working as a graphic artist, I found the long hours and stress overwhelming. I remembered my dad’s yoga practice and decided to give it a try. It was a game-changer—it helped me unwind and find calm. My first teacher was Master Kamal, and a few years later, I completed my first Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) with him and started teaching. In 2005, I was headhunted by Patrick Creelman, the founding teacher of PURE Yoga. I’ve been with PURE Yoga Singapore ever since.”

Arun: My yoga journey began as a quest for inner peace and physical strength. Over time, it transformed into a passion for guiding others. Teaching at PURE allows me to share this wisdom, helping students deepen their practice while continuously learning and evolving through each training and experience.”

Areas of Expertise: Exploring their Yoga Specialties

Q: “What are your main types of yoga specialities, and are there any unique styles or approaches you bring to your classes in Singapore?”

Hee Boon: “I teach Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga, along with specialised classes like Wall Rope and Chair Yoga. My journey includes completing Yoga Teacher Trainings at Yoga Point in India, and I continue to integrate the knowledge and wisdom acquired there into my classes. I focus on presenting the 8 limbs of yoga in a way that’s relatable and accessible to my students. Occasionally, I share inspiring yoga stories and spiritual quotes that have resonated with me to enrich the learning experience.”

Arun: “I specialise in Hatha, yoga therapy, pranayama and meditation. My approach blends traditional wisdom with modern movement science, focusing on alignment, breathwork, and mindful transitions. In Singapore, I emphasise building strength, mobility, and awareness, ensuring students leave feeling empowered, balanced, and deeply connected to their practice.”

Dedication to Growth and Learning

Q: “How do you both stay committed to continuous learning and growth, both in your own yoga practice and as teachers?”

Hee Boon: “Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of learning from teachers overseas who visited PURE Singapore to share their knowledge with our team. I also stay connected with my teacher, Ghandar, from India, engaging in discussions about yoga lifestyle, the essence of yoga in the modern world, and much more. In addition, I’ve conducted several YTTs and workshops at PURE Yoga, which have played a significant role in my ongoing teaching development.”

Arun: “We stay committed to continuous learning by deepening our personal yoga practice, exploring new techniques, and refining our teaching methods. Constantly studying and learning from our students keeps us evolving. Growth comes from consistency, curiosity, and a willingness to adapt and share knowledge with an open heart.”
